Asics was founded in 1949 by Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka, with the original company name of ONITSUKA Co., Ltd. Later on the name was changed to Asics which is an acronym for a Latin expression, “Anima Sana In Corpore Sano” which translates to “a sound mind in a sound body.” The Gel-Lyte III was designed by Shigeyuki Mitsui in 1990. His design incorporates the split tongue found on the GEL-LD Racer silhouette, today it is one of the most signature design cues on any sneaker. Pictured is the Asics Gel-Lyte III OG in White/Blue.
